Hillsborough deploys an additional 30 pumps to lower floodwaters

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY – Hillsborough County has deployed an additional 30 pumps to lower floodwaters in neighborhoods hardest hit by Hurricane Milton.

The pumps will complement the 38 permanent pumps already in place. The 30 portable pumps have been placed in areas that flooded after Milton's record rains. The pumps are now able to be used because surrounding waterways have begun to recede enough to accept water pumped from the neighborhoods.

Hurricane Milton brought historic rainfall of 10 to 15 inches, causing widespread flooding across Hillsborough County and West Central and Central Florida. The floodwaters have lingered in some areas because the nearby lakes, creeks, rivers, and ponds remained high, leaving the floodwaters nowhere to go. Now that those waterways have passed their peak flood stages, flood waters in neighboring communities are expected to steadily recede.
