Tampa Bay Water invites public comment on proposed surface water expansion

CLEARWATER – Tampa Bay Water invites residents to attend a virtual public meeting on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at 6 p.m. to learn about and provide input on potentially expanding the region's surface treatment capabilities. Residents must pre-register at tampabaywater.org/swe to participate.

As the Tampa Bay population grows, so does the need for additional drinking water. Tampa Bay Water, the region’s wholesale water utility, is investigating several projects to meet the future drinking water needs. One option under consideration would maximize the utility’s current surface water system by either expanding the existing regional surface water treatment plant in Tampa or building a new surface water treatment plant on the C.W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir property near Lithia.

Residents can learn more about this proposed project and provide feedback at a Zoom community meeting. For more information and to register for the meeting, please visit tampabaywater.org/swe. Pre-registration is required to attend the meeting.

Tampa Bay Water’s board of directors will consider public input, along with results from ongoing feasibility studies, when selecting the region's next water supply project in December 2022.
