Pinellas Park CRA seeking artists to design and paint storm drain murals

Call for Artists – Pinellas Park Storm Drain Mural Project

PINELLAS PARK – The Pinellas Park Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is seeking artists to design and paint storm drain murals at five locations in the Pinellas Park City Center. The project is part of the City and CRA’s education and outreach efforts to raise awareness about stormwater pollution through public art initiatives.

When it rains, stormwater runs over pavement, sidewalks, and yards, picking up oil, litter, yard waste, chemicals, and other pollutants. The polluted stormwater then flows down storm drains and through stormwater pipes which empty directly into our local waterways without treatment.

Storm drains can also become a hot spot for illicit dumping – trash, grease, pet waste, paint, cigarettes, and more. These pollutants make their way to local creeks and streams, damaging the health of our waterways and adversely impacting adjacent flora and fauna.

Design Theme

The Storm Drain Mural Project is open to all artists of all skill levels, including groups and students. Designs should be bold, original, demonstrate strong artistic merit and address the themes of storm water pollution, environmental protection, and local ecosystems.

Overall, the artwork and theme should exemplify “Only Rain Down The Drain”.

Storm drain art is a fun, create, visual way to engage the public in-conversations about stormwater, while also communicating the values of our City and reminding residents that our neighborhoods are directly connected to our waterways.

Armorseal Tread-Plex by Sherwin-Williams Paint will be supplied by the City of Pinellas Park, in primary colors.

Compensation

An honorarium of $500 will be provided as compensation for the selected artwork at each location.
