City of St. Petersburg looking to upgrade aging wastewater system

ST. PETERSBURG — The City of St. Petersburg is looking at upgrading a decades-old facility that treats wastewater.

The Northwest Wastewater Reclamation Facility, located at 7500 26th Ave. N., was originally constructed in 1957. It has been upgraded and expanded several times since then.

The facility current treats and pumps up to 20 million gallons per day.

St. Petersburg wants to update and upgrade the facility by replacing aging components, adding a new pump station and two new 7.5 million-gallon reject water storage tanks.

The storage tanks would be used to hold water until it can be retreated into reclaimed water for use by customers. The tanks would each be 50 feet in height and 200 feet in diameter.
