Registration deadline is Monday, March 17th

Last year, Pinellas County residents were able to haul 2,400 pounds of junk from Cross Bayou and Joe’s Creek when the Pinellas County Department of Environment and Infrastructure and Keep Pinellas Beautiful’s partnered for cleanup.

Pinellas County residents will once again have the chance to assist in keeping area waterways looking cleaner on Saturday, March 22.

The cleanup of Cross Bayou and Joe’s Creek is a decade-long tradition of helping keep Pinellas waterways beautiful and heightening public awareness of the importance of the environment in Pinellas County.

Volunteers are needed to clean up the land around the waterways or to participate on the water from a canoe or kayak. Volunteers wanting to help on the water should bring their own watercraft, or borrow a canoe or kayak (provided on a first-come, first-served basis). Participants working on the water will be required to wear life jackets. Those borrowing a canoe or kayak will be provided life jackets.

The meeting point for the effort is the Pinellas County property located at the intersection of 70th Avenue North and 78th Street North.

Check-in begins at 8 a.m., with trash collection taking place from 8:30 to 11 a.m.  After the refuse has been disposed of and the recyclables sorted, there will be lunch and a free raffle drawing. Registration is required.

Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, a hat and sunscreen, and bring a chair or towel to sit on. Trash grabbers, bags, gloves and drinking water will be provided. A water truck will also be available for volunteers to clean their watercrafts after the cleanup.

Register online at www.pinellascounty.org/volserv/events.htm. The registration deadline is Monday, March 17.

Opportunities for sponsorships are also available for local businesses. Sponsors with exhibition spaces are allowed to set-up their space starting at 7:30 a.m.

Donated items are also appreciated. Items can be in support of the event (donated funds) or items for the free volunteer raffle (giveaways).
