Keep Pinellas Beautiful Pre-registering Oil Spill Volunteers

The U.S. Coast Guard has tasked Keep Pinellas Beautiful with preparing for a Special Beach Cleanup upon notice that oil spill residue is within 72 hours of Pinellas Western Shores. There is no reason at this time to believe that our shoreline is in any immediate danger but a major change in the Gulf of Mexico currents, a shift in winds--or worse, a possible storm--could change our situation. Therefore, Keep Pinellas Beautiful has put together a Volunteer Pre-Registration plan and is in the process of setting up volunteer sites so that it can respond to remove litter and debris from our entire shoreline on a very short notice. To register, go to http://pinvol.org/, click on the Oil Spill banner, read more details on what needs to be done, and if possible volunteer to be notified of the date and time volunteers are needed by completing the pre-registration form.
